Tarantino Grindhouse Star, Stuntwoman Extraordinaire Zoë Bell, Comes to CINEMA ARTS CENTRE
Summer Camp Cinema Saturday Night Double Feature
Star and stuntwoman Zoë Bell will appear at Huntington's Cinema Arts Centre's SUMMER CAMP Series on June 30th at 11pm with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's GRINDHOUSE. During the intermission, there will be a Q & A & autograph signing with Ms. Bell.
Bell began her career as the stunt double for Lucy Lawless on XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS TV series , which was documented in the film DOUBLE DARE. She then went on to double Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL . Initially hired as Thurman's "crash and smash" double, the stunt team realized Bell would also make an ideal double for fight scenes and was trained accordingly. Tarantino was impressed with her and cast her in a leading role in his next film GRINDHOUSE, in which she plays herself and performs her own stunts, the most notable of which occur on the hood of a 1970 Dodge Challenger.
GRINDHOUSE
PULP FICTION director Quentin Tarantino and SIN CITY director Robert Rodriguez went out on a limb to re-create a phenomenon of the early 1970's-- double features of exploitation movies that played in theatres often referred to as "grindhouses." The first segment, directed by Rodriguez, PLANET TERROR, is an homage to Italian zombie flicks, while the second feature, Tarantino's DEATH PROOF, is a tribute to killer-car racing movies. The two segments put together make up the film GRINDHOUSE, starring Kurt Russell, Freddy Rodriguez, Naveen Andrews, Rose McGowan, Zoë Bell, Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn, Josh Brolin, Bruce Willis, and Tom Savini.
GRINDHOUSE is presented as part of Cinema Art Centre's SUMMER CAMP series, curated by Brett G. Sherris and Dylan Skolnick and Dylan Skolnick, in association with Alexia Anastasio. Ms. Bell and Ms. Anastasio met at the XENA convention while the latter was promoting her own short films that she edits at the Cinema Arts Centre, where she also volunteers.
